About Us
Our Story
The Earthen Hollow started with a simple kind of homesickness. After settling in the United States, we kept reaching for the foods and everyday things we grew up with in Lebanon. The olive oil our family pressed each fall. The wild thyme our grandmothers dried on rooftops. The soaps cured slowly in village workshops. The little pantry staples that made a house feel like home.
We looked everywhere for those same flavors and that same honest quality, and nothing on the shelves came close. So one day we decided to stop searching and start sharing. If we missed these things this much, surely other people did too.
It Began at the Local Markets
Long before there was a website, there was a folding table, a few crates, and a lot of love. We started out at local markets, packing the car early on weekend mornings and setting up little stands with the products we had carefully brought over from Lebanon. We poured tiny tastes of olive oil onto pieces of bread. We let people smell the za'atar. We told stories about the families who made each soap and each jar.
Those market days taught us everything. Our regulars became friends. People came back week after week, sometimes just to chat, sometimes with empty bottles ready to be refilled. The online store grew out of that same table, simply because customers kept asking if we could ship to their cousin in another state, or their daughter in college. We are still those same people, just with a slightly bigger pantry now.
Shipped Straight from Lebanon
Everything we sell travels from Lebanon to the United States. We work directly with small family farms, village cooperatives, and artisans whose craft has been passed down through generations. From the olive groves of the Koura, to the orchards of the Bekaa Valley, to the herb fields of Mount Lebanon, our products are gathered, prepared, and packed the way they always have been. By the time it reaches your door, it is as close to the source as we can possibly make it.
If We Do Not Use It, We Do Not Sell It
This is the promise we hold ourselves to. Every single thing in our shop is something we eat, cook with, or use in our own home. The olive oil goes on our bread. The za'atar goes in our morning eggs. The soaps wash our children's faces. The oils sit on our own bathroom shelves.
If something does not pass the test for our own family, it does not earn a spot in the shop. No matter how popular it might be, no matter how easy it would be to sell, we will not put our name on it unless we love it ourselves.
What We Care About
Real, natural ingredients. We choose growers who farm without synthetic chemicals and producers who keep their ingredient lists short and honest. Good food and good skincare do not need to be complicated.
Old ways of making things. Stone milled. Sun dried. Hand rolled. Slow cured. Many of our products are made with techniques that are centuries old, and you can taste the patience in them.
The people behind the products. We buy from people we know by name. When you shop with us, you are helping small Lebanese families keep their farms, their workshops, and their traditions alive.
Honesty. We will always tell you where something comes from and who made it. If we do not know, we will find out before we ever put it on the shelf.
A Little Piece of Home
Some of our customers are Lebanese, hunting for the tastes and scents of their childhood. Others have never set foot in Lebanon, but they care about clean ingredients and beautifully made things. Whatever brought you here, we hope that when you open one of our jars or unwrap one of our soaps, you feel a little of the warmth we felt at our grandmother's table.
Thank you for shopping small. Thank you for caring about where your food and your skincare come from. And thank you for letting us share a piece of home with you.
With love,
The Earthen Hollow family
